October 2009 my life as I knew it stopped and headed a totally different direction making me want to try something new. I decided to take a cake decorating class at JoAnn's Fabric Store with my friend Kelli. It was a fun class where we went once a week the whole month of October. We had a blast and I discovered a new hobby that I love doing....decorating cakes. I'm not professional by any means but I think I do a pretty good job. The first cake I ever made was a 3D car cake that was actually before my cake class, it is what sparked my interest.
The second cake I made (also before my class) was a cake for Chelsey's baby shower for Arlee. I was then actually paid to make another baby cake for someone else's baby shower.
The three cakes I made in my class. This was a basic decorating class that taught us the essentials.

The first cake we were learning to do stars (not literally stars but it's a technique of decorating). |
 |
Were were learning to do figure piping. |
 |
This was our final masterpiece, we learned how to do roses. |
 |
So pretty.....roses are the best! |
After my class my grandma had her 80th birthday party and I made her a piano note cake that she loved. Grandma gave us all piano lessons so I thought it was fitting for her.
 |
I love making roses...they are so fun. |

If you know notes then you will know this is the first six notes of Happy Birthday to You. |

First cake always has to be a little slanted right??? |
Kasiah turned three in January 2010 and I made a princess crown cake. Needless to say, it wasn't her castle that she asked me for, but she loved it.
In February my little brother Jake had his 19th birthday and I decorated a cake with an airplane for him. He is going to become a pilot.
Arlee turned ONE last year in March. Her mom and dad call her little bug and so that inspired me to make her a lady bug cake.
In September (well October) I made Jayden "Lightning McQueen" for his 3rd birthday. They came down for my wedding so we had a birthday party for him.
Shawn turned 24 and as such I made him a motorcycle birthday cake. The poor guy sold his motorcycle so we wouldn't be strapped for money when we got married. Such an amazing man :).
I just barely made Kasiah's 4th birthday cake for her birthday on the 5th. Since she wanted a castle cake so bad the year before I decided to try it out. She loved it. When I brought it in the door at my moms she tensed up her body and yelled, "MY BIRTHDAY CAKE! IT'S A CASTLE!!" She even thanked Heavenly Father for her cake while saying the dinner prayer, of course we all laughed at that.
Last but not least, Isabella's 1st birthday cake. Issy is my best friend Ashley's little girl and she is alreay a year old. I can't believe how time flies! Ashley wanted me to make the same crown cake I did for Kasiah's 3rd birthday.
I know this isn't the end of my cake making......
