Let the house hunting begin!!!!

Surprise, Surprise!!! Shawn and I, like almost everyone else, have decided that now is a GREAT time to buy a house. We both hate giving our money away to somebody else so we are going to take the next big step of our marriage and buy a house. We have been pre-approved and were told that we are "excellent buyers."

Today was the first day of our house hunting and I will admit, I got a little discouraged. Today we looked at five houses and out of the five there was only one that I didn't say YUCK to.

House number one was in Murray off of 700 East and about 4600 South.

The best part of this house was the window in the front room and the window in the kitchen had a view of the inside of the garage. Yeah, great view wouldn't you say? It was kind of funny. The whole house was gross and would need a ton of work to fix it up, a ton of work that I wouldn't want to put into a house that I don't love.

House number two was out west. It was about 4180 S and 6400 W.

Looks cute from the outside doesn't it? We pulled up and my heart started to fall a tiny bit in love. But once we walked up, different story. Two of the windows were only half there and the garage door was falling apart. The backyard was nice and big though. Walking inside I was immediately reminded of an upset stomach, the walls were pink like Pepto-Bismal. There was no carpet in the entire house, holes everywhere, and the list goes on and on.

However in this house, we had the biggest laugh of the day. Crystal (our Realtor) and I were standing in a what could be bathroom, looking at the flooring above noticing water damage when I heard a quiet whisper, "Kali." Seriously in my head I thought that the house was talking to me. I wasn't sure what I heard was really my name so I just blew it off. Then I felt something touch my leg so I looked down (in hopes that it was Crystal and not a rat or something) and saw an arm. I jumped and saw Shawn. Crystal turned to see what I was looking at and when she saw Shawn she jumped higher than me and screamed. We were laughing our heads off. Shawn came up the stairs from the yucky basement laughing also. Crystal wacked him and said pardon my language but you ****. It was pretty funny. Good times, good times.

The hole in the corner is where Shawn stuck his arm through and grabbed my leg.
The third house was the BEST of them all. It is a bank owned home that hit the market two days ago. I think we would be seriously considering this house if it wasn't clear out in Kearns. It was a darling house with 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, two living rooms, 2 car garage, and an okay sized yard. The bank had just painted it and put in new carpet. It had a flat top stove and a new dishwasher. I really liked it but like I said, too far west for our liking. Plus our kids would go to Kearns High School and that is just out of the question. Oh and also it wasn't even a mile away from major power lines. However, it was a cute house, see for yourself.

Good looking huh?

Sad attempt of a side fence

Decent size yard with a patio

2 car garage

Nice front room with purgo flooring (I'm assuming)

The carpet was nice and squishy, I should know, I took my flip flops off just to feel

If we did buy this house I would want to redo this bathroom.

Kitchen/dining area

Cameras add ten pounds right??? My new goal, loose five pounds by the end of July

Basement living room area

Stairs, could ya tell?

Stupidest part of the house, that window looks right into the next room (see below)

Great view huh?

This bathroom was nice and had nice tile flooring too.
Cute isn't it? It is pretty much the same floor plan my friends lived in in West Valley. But now the trick is finding a house that I liked just as much as this one, but in the area I want. Simple enough right?

The fourth house was a house that Shawn and I actually found and gave to Crystal. Well it was one out of the eight or so we gave to her that was still "buyable." When we saw the picture on the flyer we remembered the house and were excited to finally get to go inside. But the excitement flew away as soon as we opened the door. The house smelled of smoke and animal urine. All the carpet would need to be replaced, the walls would all have to be patched up and repainted, and the yard was looking into another persons mess of a ton of old farm equipment. Plus I wouldn't even call it a yard, maybe just a piece of grass. Let's just say I was very disappointed at how deceiving pictures can be. The kitchen however was the only thing I loved, because it was made for tall people :)

Problem number one: down sloping driveway

Even Shawn's pictures hide the true nature of the house

Walking into the okay area of the house (Crystal looks like a shortie)

See what I mean, nice kitchen.

Yuck

Yuck,

and more Yuck. Pretty sure this was the animal room.

I think this house was the worst of all of them. The others were gross but they didn't smell that bad, at all.

The fifth and final house caught me off guard. It was in West Jordan also off of Redwood and about 8600 south. Cute charming neighborhood (next to a trailer park) and the outside was cutsie too. But it only had two bedrooms which was a HUGE turnoff to me. All the baseboards were gone and the paint was bad. Which I can under stand that at the price range we are looking at, we will have to paint and put new carpet in, but this one need more than that. In one of the bedrooms it looked like they had flooding in the attic so they tried to fix it by doing a very crappy job. So I would have wanted to fix that as well if we bought the house. (After writing all of this it makes me feel like I am the biggest complainer ever.)

We don't know why they put plastic up, we are assuming they maybe had flooding here too.

Nice bay window....

we wouldn't have to buy appliances, that would be a plus.

This was the bedroom with the "fixed" ceiling.

Well that was a look into our house buying so far. Please forgive me for all the complaining, but if I am going to buy a house, it is going to be one that I can actually see potential in. Happy house hunting!!!
